I thought I'd add Aerial dance as a sub-forum as there are so many people on my facebook profile who are involved in this. I've personally never tried it but it looks amazing. I welcome anyone involved in it/interested in Aerial to start posting about it here...

That's quite funny how this thread pops up when just yesterday I was talking to someone about cirque du soleil. Thought I'd pop a link up below for others to see. It gets really good half way through (I like the more rocky/aggressive music):

As far as I know, aerial dance is basically dance in the air...so it can involve silk ribbons, bars, ropes etc. Aerial is usually associated with the cirsus but is now becoming recognised as dance.

There was a fun section on the programme 'Supersize versus Superskinny' where Anna Richardson took a trapeze class as a way to lose weight and tone up her arms...she found it incredibly hard work on her arms. I imagine had she stuck with it she would have developed very toned arms and pectoral muscles,...however, sadly, she never sticks with any of the new exercises she tests out. The trapeze class did look really good fun, I reakon I would love aerial or trapeze...just don't think there are many classes around at the moment as it isn't yet mainstream.

I'm scared of heights so I couldn't do Aerial Dance.

I was very impressed, once, by a performance I saw in a nightclub in London. I was completely unaware it was going on at first, but then realised people were looking up (the club was in an enormous warehouse complex) and there were two girls doing a trapeze act in the roof area.

Then, to my astonishment, they started to strip!!! It was really something watching a striptease (to full nudity) going on some thirty feet in the air!!! I was really impressed. The act would have been impressive anyway. but somehow the nudity gave it a vibe which was really special!!!

When I was working as a go-go dancer in a club in Liverpool we had a birthday celebration in which we had a ribbon dancer - it was a beautiful set. It strikes me that the flowing movements of the ribbons would be a great complement to a nude act.

Any other thoughts?

Kind Regards
Dave

Yeah, I'd agree that silk ribbon would add the effect of nudity. Sounds like some club to have a nude trapeze act...guess that's what you get in big cities as opposed to towns.

I don't think that all aerial is high up...I'm sure that acts just a few feets off the floor would clas as aerial..but I'm no expert!! I wold interested in finding classes near by but I imagine it's less mainstream that pole dancing. I'll have a look anyway.

In my experience Aerial Dancing is not pleasant with any naked skin. Ouch! I have been to some classes for trapeze and silks.

Here are some aerial classes on the go. Could not find that many though.
